General notes for theme developers

Please be clear and describe in your theme documentation (the README file included with your theme will help many users bypass any potential stumbling blocks):

  1. Specify exactly what your theme and template files are for.
  2. Stick to the naming convention in the standard theme hierarchy.
  3. Point out the shortcomings of your theme, if any.
  4. Write simple and clear comments, especially in complicated places, in templates and style files. Add comments in places where you’ve changed the default behavior of templates and stylesheets.
  5. If you have any special requirements that may include custom rewrite or change rules or the use of some additional, special templates, images or other files, please clearly indicate the user action steps that they must take to get your theme fully working.
  6. Try and test your theme in different browsers to catch at least some of the problems users might encounter.
  7. Include contact information (web page or email), if possible, for informational support and user questions.
